My first professional position was at Horseshoe Bay Resort and Country Club. Directed by PGA professional, Bob Putt, I started as 4th assistant. I could not have learned the business from a better professional. He taught his staff that there are always better ways of doing things. You had to distinguish yourself from the crowd. You had to work harder and be the very best! Due to his support and training the first award I won was a TOP 5% of my PGA Business School 1 Class.
This inspired my to keep improving and learn as much as I could. After working for three and a half years at Horseshoe Bay it was time to continue building my resume. I accepted an assistant professional position at Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, TX. Thanks to PGA head professional, Art Hall, for entrusting me to run his entire business for over three years. I learned more about business finances than any other position I held. I continued building my resume by moving to the Ridglea Country Club in Fort Worth. PGA professional, Keith Davidson, put me in charge of one of the two courses at Ridglea. This helped me learn more about managing an entire operation. I'm not going to go through my entire resume at this point but I got the background I needed to be successful in this business from these fine PGA pro's!
When I accepted the head professional position at the TPC at The Woodlands I was more than ready to manage this high profile course which hosted a PGA TOUR event. While at the Woodlands, I won several PGA awards:
1991 STPGA Section Merchandiser of the Year (Public)
1997 STPGA Eastern Chapter Merchandiser of the Year
1999 STPGA Section Merchandiser of the Year (Public)
1999 Nominated for PGA National Merchandiser of the Year (Public)
2007 STPGA Western Chapter Merchandiser of the Year
In addition to these PGA awards, the TPC at The Woodlands golf shop was recognized as a TOP 100 Golf Shop in the Nation by Golf Operations Magazine from 1995-1998.
